A Mighty Wind

I Cor 13:12 For now we see in a mirror,

dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in

part, but then I will know fully, even as I

was also fully known.

13 But now remain faith, hope, and love:

these three. The greatest of these is love.

A quote from yesterday:

Coffman gets a mention at this point:

Verse 8
Take heed lest there be anyone that makes
spoil of you through his philosophy and
vain deceit, after the traditions of men,
after the rudiments of the world, and not
after Christ.

Through his philosophy and vain deceit ...

It appears that the translators have
softened Paul's words in this verse by the
insertion of the pronoun "his," thus
avoiding a blanket condemnation of
philosophy and limiting the warning to the
particular philosophy advocated at
Colossae. Interlinear Greek Testaments have
the following:

Take care that no one make a prey of you
through philosophy and empty deceit. F20

Beware lest any man spoil you through
philosophy and vain deceit. F21

In keeping with the evident intention of
watering down Paul's denunciation here, the
following comments are typical of hundreds
that are made in this context:

The apostle does not condemn sound
philosophy. F22

Paul is not condemning philosophy properly
so-called. F23

Clearly the apostle condemns false
philosophy. F24

Empty deceit stands in qualifying
apposition with philosophy. F25

Such philosophies as the Jewish and Gentile
teachers used. F26

Isn't it too bad that the apostle just did
not know how to make it clear?
--->
It's not exactly that the Apostle didn't
know how to make it clear. The Apostle saw
that the point was 'not after Christ', whom
we can only see dimly, through a mirror, in
an incarnate form. So, it's clear that the
truth is in Christ Jesus, and that we are
not permitted to see through the curtain
that separates earth from heaven. We don't
have G-d in full view, except through the
incarnation. And that is just enough. You
see, just like Pascal says, the OT IS a
cipher, it's an encrypted message that at
the surface level, conceals Jesus. But my
hunch is that as the cipher is worked out,
it continues to reveal more and more about
G-d's message to man. The main subject of
that message is Jesus, hidden in plain
sight.

In the mid-17th century influential

mathematician Blaise Pascal, widely

regarded as the "father of probability

science" and "father of the modern

computer" summarized his view in a one

sentence assertion in his philosophical

Pensées, concluding that "The Old Testament

is a cipher."

Then there is another quote from yesterday:

Rousseau --
I consulted the philosophers ... I found

them all alike proud, assertive, dogmatic;

professing - even in their so-called

skepticism - to know everything; proving

nothing, scoffing at one another. This last

trait ... struck me as the only point in

which they were right. Braggarts in attack,

they are weaklings in defense. Weigh their

arguments, they are all destructive; count

their voices, each speaks for himself alone

... There is not one of them who, if he

chanced to discover the difference between

falsehood and truth, would not prefer his

own lie to the truth which another had

discovered. Where is the philosopher who

would not deceive the whole world for his

own glory?

This quote from Rousseau is a perfect
description of the evolutionistas. If you
will take the time to review the advance of
the doctrine of evolution, you will find
that there has been a progression from one
poor idea to the next poor idea. As each
attempt at making a case for their doctrine
fails, they fall back on another falsehood.
It's gone that way for over a hundred
years. Check it out. Rousseau asks a
great question -- Where is the
evolutionista who would not deceive the
whole world for his own glory???

I'm thinking that there is a need here to
make a disclaimer. The reference to energy
is NOT in the context of eastern religion
or new age doctrine. Not at all. Go back
and take another look at yesterday's post.
The direction that I am looking is similar
to what Phillips intended to do with his
translation. Take the ancient text and
put it into modern terms. It's not a
mathematically exact effort, because
language is not that way. My point is that
when I use the term 'energy', it's not to
be taken in the sense that there is no
personification of that element. My point
is that it is a way to describe one aspect
of the third person of the trinity. Or to
put it another way, I'm not trying to view
scripture through the lens of the 21st
century, I'm trying to view the 21st
century through the lens of scripture.

Jesus said that he would send the comforter
to assist all believers. Comforter is
also translated counselor, as in legal
advisor.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and

he shall give you another COMFORTER, that

he may abide with you for ever;

14:26 But the COMFORTER, which is the Holy

Ghost, whom the Father will send in my

name, he shall teach you all things, and

bring all things to your remembrance,

whatsoever I have said unto you.

15:26 But when the COMFORTER is come, whom

I will send unto you from the Father, even

the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from

the Father, he shall testify of me:

16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It

is expedient for you that I go away: for if

I go not away, the COMFORTER will not come

unto you; but if I depart, I will send him

unto you.

Then the book of Acts records that the Holy
Ghost was sent, and records the
manifestation of that event. This is the
same Spirit that descended on Jesus in the
form of a dove.

Acts 2
1 Now when the day of Pentecost had come,

they were all with one accord in one place.

2 Suddenly there came from the sky a sound

like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it

filled all the house where they were

sitting.

3 Tongues like fire appeared and were

distributed to them, and it sat on each one

of them.

4 They were all filled with the Holy

Spirit, and began to speak with other

languages, as the Spirit gave them the

ability to speak...

16 But this is what has been spoken through

the prophet Joel:

17 `It will be in the last days, says G-d,

I will pour forth of my Spirit on all

flesh. Your sons and your daughters will

prophesy. Your young men will see visions.

Your old men will dream dreams.

18 Yes, and on my servants and on my

handmaidens in those days, I will pour out

my Spirit, and they will prophesy.

I'm not sure what to make of the doctrine
of the Trinity. I think that I know the
descriptions of what the Trinity is NOT.
We can't see through the curtain that
separates heaven and earth. We can only
know what has been translated through that
dimension, by the revelation of G-d.
What I see in scripture is that we have
the incaranation in Jesus, a unique, one-
time special event, and we have the
active agent of the Holy Ghost, who has
been sent to carry out the work of G-d in
the present world.

At the end of the day, all of the works of
G-d have to be understood in light of
scripture. Scripture is the only, ONLY
revelation of G-d that we have in the 21st
century. Good thing that believers have
the power of the Holy Ghost. Good thing
that we can be plugged in to the power grid
of heaven. Without that power, I doubt we
would be able to shed much light.

Matt 5:14 You are the light of the world. A

city set on a hill can`t be hid.

This word 'light' is used 70 times in the
greek (Phos), along with various other
types of light.

Rev 21:22 I saw no temple in it, for the

Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are

its temple.

23 The city has no need for the sun,

neither of the moon, to shine, for the very

glory of G-d illuminated it, and its lamp

is the Lamb.
--->
22:5 There will be no more night, and they

need no lamp light, neither sunlight; for

the Lord G-d will give them light. They

will reign forever and ever.

I'm left with the idea that there is a
different kind of light in heaven than the
narrow range of the electromagnetic
spectrum the we sense as light. And still
the energy metaphor, as abused as it has
been in the context of madern religious
thought, is an interesting metaphor to
describe the work of the third person of
Trinity, not His essence. ...the rushing
of a mighty wind...
