The name of this blog is taken from a comment by Joseph Friedman,
The Computer Guy. I want to give credit to whom credit is due.It was
his idea. Joseph claims to be an atheist. Over the period of time that
I was working with him, we occasionally talked about Christianity.
I invite you, the reader, to get on the bus as it travels the information
superhighway.
The thrust of this project is to get you the reader, and me,the writer, to begin thinking in another direction about Christianity. What does ancient scripture have to say to those of us living in the 21st century? J. B. Phillips made a contribution to the 20th century, with his paraphrase of the ancient greek scripture, a.k.a. The New Testament.I'm no J. B. Phillips, but I like to study scripture and I like to write. Rather than add to the confusion surrounding the text,my hope is to provide some clarity.
Over the past year or so I have been helped greatly by the various bloggers who offer their insights for the taking. This is my personal effort to return something of value to those and others with an interest. Wrapped up in this project is some thirty years of study and experience of a common layman. That is to say, I don't have all the answers, but I know Jesus does. As scripture says, 'seek, and ye shall find'.
From the get go, it's not my aim to answer every question on the subject. I simply don't have the background or the time. The intent here is only to offer brief comments on some of the main topics - what I see as central themes - in Christian Theology, without all the technical jargon. There's nothing wrong with jargon, and some will probably be required, but I prefer plain english.
The biggest challenge for me is, Where do I begin?Because I don't have any idea where readers are in their own experience and study. So, all I can think of is to make sure that I put a couple cookies on the lower shelf and try to offer something for others who have a further reach. Topics will be selected mostly at random. At first I thought that maybe I should start at the beginning - the book of Genesis. That is what I want to work toward, because Genesis is a heavy duty book.In fact, my entire effort could be directed toward Genesis, and throughout the rest of my lifetime it would be left incomplete. There's alot there.
After reading over many blogs this past year, I am compelled to
add that I will not likely be drawn into other topics. This is
NOT a blog for Bush bashing, or politics in general, and those
kinds of comments are appropriate for all the other blogs devoted
to politics. Otherwise, please feel free to post any and all
related comments.
Funny, thinking about it. A couple things I admire about Jesus is that he didn't express much interest in personal political power or financial self enrichment. Maybe we can keep this blog free of those two highly corrosive influences. I'd take on vows of celibacy too, but I'm already married.
